Abstract
This book explores how the aesthetic gesture of deadpan, an inscrutability or opacity that can be witnessed through corporeal or inanimate means, retains cultural narratives related to Black embodiment and subjectivity. Offering historic and contemporary examples of deadpan, Post presents new ways of thinking about expressionlessness in art and everyday life.
