Abstract
The main purpose of this program was to train sonographers to perform ultrasound-guided thyroid biopsies independently under the supervision of a radiologist. This program, designed and led by our lead biopsy radiologist, aimed to reduce wait times and improve the quality of patient care. Four experienced sonographers were selected to proceed with the rigorous thyroid biopsy training under the guidance and supervision of a radiologist. The program was successfully launched in August 2011, with the wait times and adequacy rates recorded until 2016. The program revealed positive outcomes and has been a huge success at our institution.
