Abstract
Este estudio se enfocó en desarrollar indicadores de sostenibilidad ambiental para los páramos de los Illinizas Sur, con especial atención en las Termas de Cunuyacu, ubicadas en la parroquia San Juan de Pastocalle, Ecuador, El objetivo principal fue establecer un marco analítico que permitió evaluar las condiciones ambientales, socioeconómicas y turísticas del área, promoviendo un manejo sostenible de sus recursos naturales. La metodología empleada combinó un enfoque deductivo-inductivo basado en revisiones bibliográficas, visitas de campo, entrevistas con actores clave, encuestas a la población local y turistas, y el uso de herramientas tecnológicas como QGIS y Atlas.Ti. A través del modelo PER (Presión-Estado-Respuesta), se identificaron 31 indicadores de sostenibilidad distribuidos en cinco factores: turismo, suelo, agua, biodiversidad y manejo ambiental. Estos indicadores fueron seleccionados considerando las necesidades de conservación del ecosistema y el impacto de las actividades humanas en la región. Entre los principales hallazgos, se destacó la importancia de implementar estrategias que equilibren el desarrollo turístico con la preservación del entorno natural. El estudio concluye que la colaboración entre las comunidades locales, las autoridades y los turistas es esencial para la sostenibilidad ambiental. Promover la educación y sensibilización ambiental, junto con la implementación de políticas efectivas de manejo de recursos, es clave para proteger la biodiversidad y garantizar el uso responsable de los recursos naturales de los páramos de los Illinizas Sur.
