Abstract
La variation sociolinguistique a été décrite comme existant à plusieurs niveaux : phonétique, phonologique, syntaxique ou encore lexical (Wolfram, 1993). Cet article explore un autre type de variation : la variation orthographique. Il se focalise sur la variable orthographique il y a, composée de sa variante standard « il y a » et de plusieurs variantes non standard dont « y’a » et « ya ». À partir d’un corpus composé de commentaires publiés sur r/france et r/Quebec, deux forums du site communautaire Reddit, il étudie les effets de trois facteurs sociodémographiques (genre, âge, pays) et d’un facteur linguistique (position dans l’énoncé) sur les réalisations graphiques de il y a. Les résultats révèlent des corrélations significatives entre les choix des internautes, leur pays et leur âge, ainsi qu’un effet de la position des variantes dans l’énoncé.
