Rufat y Jiménez Calderón (2019) sostienen que la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera (EELE) se ve influenciada por el contexto en el que se imparten los cursos. ¿Qué decir entonces de la EELE en Canadá, país que entró en un proceso de reconciliación y paz con los pueblos originarios (Commission de vérité et réconciliation, 2012) frente a las injusticias sufridas por estas comunidades a lo largo de su historia? Debido a que todas las disciplinas tienen un papel por desempeñar en la descolonización de la enseñanza superior en Canadá, se tiene que repensar la EELE de acuerdo con este proceso con el fin de contribuir a descolonizar, por una parte, la enseñanza superior en Canadá y, por otra, los cursos de español como lengua extranjera (ELE). La presente propuesta permite desarrollar a la vez las competencias interculturales (Deardorff, 2009) e interlingüísticas de quienes aprenden (Consejo de Europa, 2001, 2020; Instituto Cervantes, 2007). Asimismo, presenta actividades didácticas y un tema poco explotado para integrarlos en la EELE con el fin de inscribir estos cursos en el proceso de descolonización de la enseñanza superior en Canadá.
