Abstract
Cet article étudie, à partir d’une enquête auprès d’universitaires de sciences, lettres et sciences humaines, ce qui peut constituer une culture commune à la profession universitaire. La profession universitaire est souvent étudiée sous l’angle de sa fragmentation, de la différenciation croissante entre les trajectoires et carrières des universitaires. Les entretiens biographiques réalisés auprès d’enseignants-chercheurs ont néanmoins fait apparaître des points communs dans les manières de se raconter et de rendre compte de leurs trajectoires, de revendiquer une fonction spécifique au sein de l’espace social. Cette culture se caractérise par l’attachement à un idéal de l’université comme corps autonome de savants. Elle s’acquiert de manière individualisée par un contact prolongé avec le corps, plus que par l’action réglée de l’institution. La mise en lumière de cette culture commune permet de montrer que la différenciation et la segmentation des pratiques sont pour une part le résultat de cette culture.
