El presente artículo recoge las conclusiones de un estudio realizado por el autor sobre experiencias educativas de carácter inclusivo desarrolladas en escuelas canadienses del área de Toronto. Además de la visita a escuelas y aulas donde los niños con discapacidad compartían su trabajo con sus compañeros en un entorno normalizado, las entrevistas con profesores, directores, auxiliares, estudiantes y padres han completado una visión amplia de las posibilidades y dificultades del enfoque inclusivo en el contexto canadiense. La experiencia inclusiva se presenta en confrontación con la situación de la integración escolar en España, donde parece que no se produce un cambio que lleve a las escuelas a la puesta en marcha de una educación inclusiva. El artículo trata de analizar qué elementos se encuentran en la práctica educativa de las escuelas inclusivas que pudieran servir de reflexión a quienes gestionan y desarrollan la educación en España sobre la necesidad de introducir determinados cambios que promuevan la transición de una escuela integradora a una escuela inclusiva.
