Notre article s’intéresse à la pratique de la joëlette en tant qu’engin de développement de la participation sportive et sociale. Nous nous attachons particulièrement à analyser un élément de la dimension micro-environnementale : la compensation humaine. Dans un premier temps, cet écrit présente l’activité dans un usage ludique en contexte de loisirs en pleine nature et souligne les expériences et les perceptions des personnes en situation de handicap. Dans un second temps, il propose, à partir d’une enquête par entretiens semi-directifs et par observations participantes auprès des pratiquants, d’analyser l’activité dans un contexte compétitif (semi-marathons et trail). Il s’agit d’apporter des éléments de compréhension aux motifs d’engagement des participants et à la place de la personne ayant des difficultés de mobilité dans l’équipe. Les résultats soulignent que le contexte compétitif modifie les relations sociales. La participation aux courses en compétition tend à occulter l’altruisme et le partage.
