At the 17<sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">th</sup> International Wroclaw Symposium, 28-30 June 2004 [1] we presented work on the attempted identification of interferences in Canada to the 121.5 MHz band of the Cospas-Sarsat search and rescue satellite system designed to locate potential survivors of an aircraft crash or maritime distress event. At that time the interference was causing the Cospas-Sarsat system to issue false emergency reports that appeared to be in, or near, major cities in Canada. This paper presents the methodology for the characterisation of these interfering signals, examines the possible signal sources and the resolution of the 121.5 MHz interference problem.
