Abstract
Nach bundesweiten Schätzungen lebt etwa die Hälfte der Menschen mit geistiger Behinderung in ihrer Herkunftsfamilie. Diese 'permanente Elternschaft' kann mit dem Älterwerden der Eltern und mit zunehmendem Alter der Söhne und Töchter mit Behinderung zu Konflikten oder sogar zu akuten Krisen führen, etwa bei Krankheit oder Behinderung eines Elternteils. Dann funktionieren eingespielte Rollenverständnisse und gewohnte Hilfestellungen nicht mehr. Eine bis dahin nicht erfolgte Ablösung der erwachsenen Söhne und Töchter mit Behinderung wird zum Problem auf beiden Seiten. Das Projekt 'Älter werdende Eltern und erwachsene Familienmitglieder mit Behinderung zu Hause. Innovative Beratungs- und Unterstützungsangebote im Ablösungsprozess' (ElFamBe) erprobte in seiner Praxisforschung neue Beratungs- und Unterstützungsarrangements gemeinsam mit den Eltern und leistete so einen Beitrag zur Verbesserung der Lebensqualität der Eltern. Es wollte die Sichtweise der Eltern von erwachsenen Kindern mit Behinderung verstehen lernen, bestehende Angebote der Behindertenhilfe systematisch erfassen und an die Eltern weitergeben.
