Der Mensch mit einer geistigen Behinderung muss als Mitbürger mit uneingeschränkten Rechten auf ein normales Leben in der Gesellschaft angesehen werden. . so die Kern-Botschaft des in Dänemark, Schweden und in Kanada entwickelten Normalisierungsprinzips, das zugleich Kernaussage aller neueren Paradigmen der Hilfen für Menschen mit geistiger Behinderung ist wie Integration, Selbstbestimmung, Teilhabe und Inklusion. Das Buch • zeigt an historischen, teils bisher noch unveröffentlichten, teils vergriffenen Texten auf, wie das Recht auf ein Leben so normal wie möglich in die Praxis umgesetzt werden kann; • enthält die umfangreichste deutschsprachige Literaturübersicht zum Thema; • belegt, dass die Verwirklichung des Normalisierungsprinzips nur durch die Änderung von Haltungen und Einstellungen aller sich als Assistenten bei der Unterstützung von Menschen mit geistiger Behinderung beruflich beteiligenden und der Angehörigen selbst erreicht werden kann
