Abstract
Cette note de recherche conteste l’idée que le Québec fut une terre d’exil pour des milliers de communards après la répression de la Commune de Paris, une thèse défendue en 2008 dans une étude consacrée à l’histoire de l’anarchisme au Québec. En effet, aucune preuve documentaire ne confirme l’existence d’un tel mouvement migratoire qui expliquerait à lui seul l’augmentation de l’immigration française au Canada au début des années 1870. Cependant, si l’absence d’une communauté de proscrits ne fait aucun doute, le spectre de la Commune est quant à lui bien présent dans la société québécoise dès 1871.
