Perseverance Pays Off: Bricolage and Proactiveness as a Path to Social Impact

Abstract
Our study explores how entrepreneurial behaviours in social enterprises help them navigate systemic challenges related to scarcity and power, thereby contributing to their social impact. Drawing from data collected through a survey conducted in Nova Scotia, Canada, we employ regression analysis and a structural equation model to understand how entrepreneurial bricolage interacts with the three dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation to affect perceived impact in social enterprises. Our results highlight that the combination of bricolage and proactiveness is particularly important in small social enterprises. Interestingly, organisations with higher levels of economic productivity or risk-taking behaviours do not exhibit higher social impact.
