Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Abstract. Analyzing and designing timber connections in fire conditions presents a significant challenge in timber buildings. Regardless of the beam-to-column connection configuration, connections are considered the weakest link in a timber building when exposed to fire. This paper presents state-of-the-art research on the structural fire performance of mass timber hybrid connections, providing valuable insights for the design and construction of timber buildings. The behaviour of different mass timber beam-to-column hybrid connections investigated through fire endurance experiments over the past decade in the Fire Testing and Research Laboratory at Lakehead University (LUFTRL), Ontario, Canada, are addressed. Comparative analyses of the experimental results obtained with emphasis on various aspects, including the connections’ moment-resisting capabilities and failure modes, the influence of fire protection application, and the utilization of STS as a strengthening technique on the structural performance of timber connections in fire conditions, are discussed.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
