Analysis of Selected Digital and Connectivity Policies in Canada

Abstract
Abstract This article’s objective is to provide an overview of the implementation and effects of selected digital connectivity policies impacting rural regions in British Columbia, Canada. The article identifies four key federal-level policies/strategies and two provincial-level programs and synthesized publicly available information regarding the implementation and effects of each. The analysis was supplemented with open-ended survey responses from rural British Columbians. The policies emphasized universal connectivity targets and funding programs, with challenges related to delays and “last-mile” connectivity. Survey respondents highlighted positive impacts of recent connectivity for some residents and skepticism about universal coverage and concerns about affordability for others.
