Abstract
There is an assumption that boys outperform girls in the achievement of mathematics because they are biologically different. However, many studies in this field show varied results. Gender differences may be observed among students in the subjects of mathematics and science during early child- hood. Gender patterns emerge from the onset of puberty concurrent with the development of gender identities and gender roles in adulthood. One of the main factors that affects math performance is math anxiety, which is more common among female students. European and Western countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States are still affected by the gender differences in mathematics and science. To improve outcomes for both genders in the subject of mathematics, the classroom environment, teachers’ attitudes, students’ learning styles, pedagogical strategies, outside classroom experiences, and activities should be offered to encourage mathematics instruction and need to be addressed wisely.
