Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

This theoretical chapter discusses the relevance and importance of indigenous African knowledges in promoting sustainable learning for indigenous African students. It argues that sustainable learning cannot be achieved when schooling content and pedagogical practices exclude colonized and marginalised indigenous knowledges. Culture involves politics of knowledge construction, and school knowledge that excludes indigenous knowledges lacks cultural justice and cognitive justice— the right of all forms and traditions of knowledge to co-exist in producing meaningful learning for students. Cognitive justice contributes to meaningful education requiring students' capacities and capabilities that are rooted in their social and cultural lived experiences, which in turn, should be the epistemological foundations defining school knowledge. The chapter concludes that to promote cultural justice and cognitive justice that can lead to sustainable learning and sustainable livelihoods indigenous knowledge systems should be the foundation of school knowledge in Africa.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
