Abstract
L’espace maritime de l’Asie de l’Est a été caractérisé, aux xvie et xviie siècles, par la désagrégation du commerce tributaire, la recrudescence de la piraterie, la reconfiguration des défenses côtières, l’apparition d’un domaine sans État à Taïwan, et une transition dynastique Ming-Qing violente et chaotique. Quelles sont les lignes de force qui le polarisent ? Quels en sont les acteurs ? La Chine maritime et sa périphérie forment un continuum terre-mer dans lequel s’enchevêtrent échanges encadrés par des licences, régime fiscal différencié, contrebande et piraterie. Alors que la période marque la fin d’un ordre sinocentrique, l’Asie maritime est désormais un espace animé par la concurrence entre marchands. Une logique territoriale s’affronte à une logique floue et flexible, animée par des acteurs multiples et souvent insaisissables.
