Abstract
Objetivo: Determinar los factores asociados con el deterioro cognitivo en adultos mayores que asisten a la consulta externa del Hospital Naval de Especialidades de Veracruz. Material y métodos: El estudio estuvo constituido por adultos mayores de edad (con edad igual o mayor a 60 años) que acudan al servicio de consulta externa del Hospital Naval de Especialidades de Veracruz, los cuales cumplan los criterios de inclusión. Para la evaluación cognitiva, se utilizó el Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), que evalúa seis dominios: memoria, capacidad visuoespacial, función ejecutiva, atención, lenguaje y orientación, con una puntuación máxima de 30. Resultados: Se analizó la relación entre las características sociodemográficas, comorbilidades y niveles de deterioro cognitivo. La edad, el sexo femenino, el ser viudos o estar en concubinato mostraron asociación con el deterioro cognitivo moderado. Además, enfermedades crónicas como la hipertensión, la obesidad, el tabaquismo y la inactividad física están asociadas con la progresión del deterioro. Los niveles de glucosa y triglicéridos son significativamente más altos en los grupos con deterioro cognitivo leve y moderado en comparación con el grupo sin deterioro. Conclusión: El deterioro cognitivo es un problema de salud multifactorial influenciado por aspectos sociodemográficos, la presencia de enfermedades crónicas, el estilo de vida, los hábitos alimentarios y diversas condiciones metabólicas.
