Abstract
Nous proposons ici le deuxième volet d’une analyse des transformations matérielles, contextuelles et herméneutiques liées aux nombreuses éditions d’un même livre sur une période de près de cinq siècles. Le premier volet étudiait les éditions originales de ce livre, le Cymbalum mundi (Paris, 1537; Lyon, 1538), sa possible circulation manuscrite au xviie siècle ainsi que les éditions bibliophiliques − et pirates − ayant surgi au xviiie siècle. Nous nous intéresserons maintenant aux éditions érudites du xixe siècle, puis aux éditions savantes du xxe siècle. Cet examen comparatif sur la « longue durée » paraît révélateur de l’évolution des transformations de l’édition littéraire imprimée et de ses enjeux interprétatifs pendant la « parenthèse Gutenberg ». Nous évoquerons, en conclusion, le potentiel de réappropriation − ou de « dés-appropriation » − qu’offrent de nouvelles éditions numériques de ce livre énigmatique alors que cette parenthèse se referme au xxie siècle.
