Abstract
Abstract This article seeks to demonstrate the uniqueness of the Lebu group in the Dakar region. This community, settled in Dakar for nearly 6 centuries, has developed a fertile imagination around tutelary geniuses with cultic practices jealously guarded despite the very strong Islamization of sub-Saharan West Africa and French colonization. These are religious but fundamentally redemptive ceremonies through the sacrifice of an animal and libations. The famous sessions of tuuru and ndëp in Senegal are organized by the members of this community for the treatment of psychological or even psychosomatic disorders. Moreover, the term ndëp, an element of the intangible cultural heritage of the Lebu, has been adopted by the Senegalese and is regularly adapted to political discourse in times of crisis to evoke the need to practice collective psychotherapy on a national scale.
