Abstract
Cet article est une contribution à l’histoire des mouvements migratoires des Maritimes de la fin du 19e et du début du 20e siècle. Nous examinons l’expérience de la mobilité chez les femmes célibataires d’origine française de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard dans la période de 1906 à 1940. En adoptant une approche macro-historique, l’étude met à profit les données des fiches frontalières du poste frontalier de Vanceboro, Maine pour comprendre la portée du phénomène et les comportements de ces femmes célibataires qui font l’expérience de la mobilité régionale, au sein des Maritimes, ou transnationale, aux États-Unis. L’étude confirme la présence des réseaux parentaux constitués en grande partie de femmes, qui accueillent ces immigrantes aux États-Unis. Leur présence explique les phénomènes de regroupement de ces émigrantes dans un nombre très restreint de communautés et de comtés du Maine et du Massachusetts.
