Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The bowhead whale ( Balaena mysticetus ) is the only baleen whale endemic to the Arctic and has been greatly depleted through commercial whaling. Two bowhead whales were photographed swimming together in the Churchill River estuary, Manitoba, Canada, in 2020 using a time-lapse camera mounted at the port of Churchill. A systematic literature review of bowhead whale sightings off the coast of Manitoba from 1900 to today was performed to provide a summary of bowhead whale presence in the area. Bowhead whale sightings from residents and researchers working in the Churchill River area were also gathered. Results show that bowhead whales have rarely been reported off the coast of Manitoba. Observations of bowhead whales in other atypical areas have become more common in the past two decades and they all involved single individuals. This is the first recent sighting of a group of bowhead whales outside their typical range.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
