Abstract
Je propose dans cet article de réfléchir à la posture adoptée — parfois malgré lui — par le député libéral allochtone Marc Miller dans le dossier de la « réconciliation par les langues » du gouvernement fédéral. Cas de figure en la matière, Miller s’exprime à plusieurs reprises en kanyen’kéha au Parlement du Canada, notamment à l’adoption de la Loi sur les langues autochtones (2019). Dans la présente étude, les théories critiques de l’allyship et de la réconciliation servent de cadre pour une analyse linguistique critique des propos que tient le député, en tout ou en partie, dans une langue autochtone à la Chambre des communes, de leur réception immédiate et de leur distribution dans les médias. Dans ce contexte, Miller contribue à faire entendre des langues et des enjeux dans des sphères de pouvoir où ils ont longtemps été exclus, et ce, d’une façon novatrice. En même temps, le spectacle de la réconciliation qu’il performe maintient en place le statu quo colonial.
