Abstract
The Canadian Hydrogen Observatory and Radio transient Detector (CHORD) is a next-generation radio telescope which will observe most of the northern sky in the coming decade across 300–1500 MHz. CHORD will be composed of a central array of 512 six-meter dishes located at the Dominion Radio Astrophyiscal Observatory (DRAO) near Penticton, B.C., Canada, and two outrigger sites in the United States positioned at continental baselines from the main array, each equipped with 64 CHORD dishes enabling ≾10 mas localization of radio transients. CHORD will focus on a wide variety of science objectives, including improvements in our understanding of dark energy through 21-cm intensity mapping of the large scale structure (LSS), increased fast radio burst (FRB) detection rates across a wide frequency range, a vast increase in 21-cm galaxy detection compared with previous observatories, and precision measurements of pulsars.
