On a peut-être cru qu’il n’était plus possible de se mentir sur la question de la confiance, que le 20e siècle l’avait désenchantée à jamais, qu’il ne restait qu’à pleurer sa disparition. Pourtant, l’heure du dépôt de bilan ouvre l’ère des questionnements, où la confiance doit impérativement s’interroger à la lumière du conflit. Parce que celui-ci est une énergie en puissance, un chaos qui cherche à prendre forme. La pensée mythique rejoint les plus fines hypothèses actuelles : le conflit peut se manifester ailleurs que dans la destruction et la désolation, s’épanouir à travers des pratiques créatives et innovatrices. C’est une dizaine de collaborateurs venus d’horizons aussi divers que la cour de justice, l’amphithéâtre d’une université ou un service privé de psychothérapie qui, ici, pensent ensemble la confiance altérée, entre suspicion et désabusements. Ainsi nous aident-ils à mieux saisir comment les arts, les pratiques culturelles et les sciences humaines parlent de ces figures fragiles de la confiance qui sont autant de liens en péril. La confiance altérée est le résultat d’une étroite et longue collaboration intellectuelle sur les figures de la confiance et du conflit dans la culture et les arts. En tant que chercheure en mythologie et en art, Fabienne Claire Caland a codirigé Horizons du mythe en 2007 (Cahiers du CÉLAT) et publié son premier essai un an plus tard, En diabolie. Les fondements imaginaires de la barbarie contemporaine (VLB). Doctorante au Département d’études littéraires de l’UQAM, Katerine Gagnon apporte son expertise sur la littérature contemporaine, la psychanalyse et la pensée féministe. Simon Harel a publié une trentaine d’ouvrages scientifiques dont, en 2010, l’essai Attention écrivains méchants (Presses de l’Université Laval) et, en coédition, Confiance et langage (In Press). Directeur du Département de littérature comparée de l’Université de Montréal et du Laboratoire sur les récits du soi mobile, il est membre de la Société royale du Canada.
