Adelsmanden Thomas Juel til Estrup og Sønderskov deltog i flere trolddomsprocesserpå Chr. IV’s tid. I 1641 var han med til at forhøre den berømte Maren Splids i Ribe og toårtier forinden deltog han i en af Danmarkshistoriens største hekseudrensninger. Hansindsats i denne forfølgelse er blevet kaldt heksejagt. Men hvor stort var hans engagementegentlig? I denne artikel vurderes hans rolle ud fra en systematisk analyse af trolddomsprocessernei Viborg Landstings dombøger fra årene 1616-1626. I disse år kulmineredeheksejagten i Nørrejylland. En mere generel undersøgelse af adelens deltagelse i de jysketrolddomsprocesser i disse år sætter Thomas Juels rolle i et nyt perspektiv.
