Cascadia : analyse des réseaux humains transfrontaliers à la frontière Canada/États‑Unis ou comment se construit une région transfrontalière à l’échelle urbaine ?

Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse à la construction de la région Cascadia, qui se situe à la frontière Canada/États-Unis entre Vancouver et Seattle/Portland, en étudiant les différentes caractéristiques constitutives d’une région transfrontalière, telles qu’identifiées dans la littérature sur le sujet, à savoir les liens fonctionnels, les représentations, l’identité commune et la coopération transfrontalière. À partir d’un travail de terrain effectué en 2019, mêlant données qualitatives et quantitatives, l’auteur met l’accent sur les villes qui constituent le maillage régional de Cascadia, afin d’identifier les réseaux qui existent et qui structurent la région. Il démontre que la frontière Canada/États-Unis demeure un obstacle à l’intégration régionale, en raison de la politique sécuritaire déployée depuis 2001, et que la région est aux prises de forces antithétiques de debordering et de rebordering.
