Un important corpus de recherches en didactique des mathématiques a été développé au Québec depuis près de 40 ans. Les analyses réalisées par Lemoyne (1996) et Kieran (2003) permettent d’établir un premier portrait de l’évolution de la recherche en didactique des mathématiques au Québec sous l’angle des objets qu’elle aborde et de sa communauté de chercheurs. En partant de ces synthèses et des premiers travaux de recherche réalisés en didactique des mathématiques au sein des groupes québécois qui ont constitué des pôles importants de développement de celle-ci (Centre de recherche en psycho-mathématique, le Centre de recherche en didactique (CRD), section didactique de l’UQÀM, le Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche sur l’apprentissage et le développement en éducation (CIRADE), etc., nous avons tenté de retracer les finalités, les courants théoriques et les approches méthodologiques qui ont orienté les pratiques didactiques de ces groupes. Ce retour aux sources cherche à reconstruire le sens profond des premiers travaux menés dans ce domaine. Il vise aussi à répondre aux questions suivantes : de quelle didactique des mathématiques est-il question quand on parle de didactique des mathématiques dans ces groupes? Quelle cohérence, si elle existe, traverse ces différents travaux?
