Abstract
Nos vies se vivent dans des histoires et, pour donner un sens à nos vies, nous racontons des histoires. Pour que ces histoires servent leur but, elles doivent être entendues. Nos patients nous apportent leur histoire et il nous incombe d’y prêter attention. Des histoires de patients qui sont le sujet et l’objet de la médecine narrative. La médecine interne est une spécialité des récits : pendant la maladie, les patients sont forcés de réécrire des récits de leur vie, et en tant que médecins, nous sommes privilégiés parce que ces récits nous sont donnés librement. La médecine narrative s’est développée en réponse à une pratique médicale de plus en plus axée sur la technologie qui détourne l’attention du patient vers les écrans de l’ordinateur de bureau, de la tablette ou du téléphone. Son but principal est d’enseigner aux médecins comment écouter et, une fois cela accompli, d’agir en fonction des histoires que nous entendons.
