Challenges of Immigrant Families to Take their Children to Recreational Activities

Abstract
Guelph is attracting immigrants and refugees like a magnet in recent days. Most of these families can not afford recreational activities for their children. There are services that provide financial assistance to these families and those who are unable to support their family financially. Despite these services, the children of the new immigrant families do not attend any recreational or sport related activities. This can negatively impact their mental health as well as physical well being. This research is conducted to find reasons why these families are unable to provide recreation services to their children. The data collection will be done through focus groups and the participants will be asked about their job shifts, family dynamics and mode of transportation. The result of this research will be helpful to the municipalities to better cater to the needs of these families so that they can provide their children with recreational activities of their choice without compromising the requirements or the needs of the parents.
