La diversification des économies régionales constitue un letimotiv ancien des politiques de développement régional et suscite un intérêt renouvelé des géographes et économistes dans le milieu académique. Ce papier développe une approche politique de la diversification en montrant que les acteurs sociaux sont susceptibles de générer collectivement, à partir d’une même activité et dans une même région, des projets de diversification à géométrie variable sur un mode plus ou moins conflictuel. Les bifurcations dans une trajectoires de diversification sont expliquées à l’aune des dynamiques du travail politique (cadrage, instrumentation et alliance) opéré par les acteurs qui jouent avec les opportunités offertes par leur contexte institutionnel (sectoriel et territorial). Ces propositions théoriques sont testées à partir de la comparaison de deux branches émergentes de l’aquaculture en région maritime périphérique (Bretagne, Québec Maritime).
