Abstract
The Living Newspaper 2.0, inspired by the Federal Theatre Project’s innovative approach to socially conscious drama, revitalizes the historical Living Newspaper tradition by blending historical techniques with contemporary collaborative practices and experimentations with digital technologies to engage modern audiences. This three-part article examines the creation and implementation of the Living Newspaper 2.0. In Part I, I will provide a contextual background for the Living Newspaper 2.0, exploring its roots and the critical need for socially conscious drama in today’s socio-political landscape. Part II will focus on the methodology behind its creation, detailing the integration of traditional theatrical techniques with modern collaborative practices and digital technologies. The final instalment of this series, Part III, not only discusses the practical applications and performance outcomes of the Living Newspaper 2.0 but also includes an opportunity to view the final performance of Always Present, Rarely Recognized: A Living Newspaper on Misogyny, allowing readers to witness firsthand the culmination of this theatrical process. Each segment aims to highlight the blend of history, methodology, and practical implementation that makes the Living Newspaper 2.0 a pivotal instrument in the realm of political theatre creation.
