Abstract
Publié en 1982, Le Baobab fou est la première autofiction de la trilogie autobiographique de la sénégalaise Ken Bugul. Écrite depuis le Sénégal, cette œuvre liminaire procède d’un retour mémoriel aux lieux du passé : l’enfance africaine et l’exil européen. Il y est de fait transcrit un retraçage désordonné des souvenirs d’une enfance qui est lourdement marquée du sceau de l’absence de la mère et de son histoire de jeune migrante découvrant l’Europe de la fin des années 1960 et 1970. La prise en charge par l’école française constitue à ce titre un élément marquant et fondamental sur fond duquel s’élabore une conscience trébuchante de ses rapports à soi, aux siens et aux autres. Si le départ pour Bruxelles fait suite à l’obtention largement méritée d’une bourse d’étude, la narratrice précise, néanmoins, que c’était plutôt « le pays des Blancs qui (l)’intéressait » (LBF 37). Second exil, plus qu’épopée, ce séjour permet d’esquisser une cartographie de la rupture-blessure.
