Abstract
lt is my pleasure to bear a witness to the release of a study which is a unique contribution to increased awareness of the importance of women's rights issues in the Czech Republic in this period of transition to a democratic system and market economy. Many fundamental changes that have occured in the political and economic life of this country over recent years have influenced the role of women, their ideas about their place in society as well as their own efforts to put these ideas into practice.I am particularly pleased to see that this publication offers a comparative analysis of women's rights from the perspective of Czech legal regulations and international legal instruments. This is highly important now that the Czech Republic has joined the O. E. C. D. and is seeing accession to the European Union.lt is always exciting to witness the birth of something valuable. So, it is without any exaggeration that I am proud to see further evidence of fruitful cooperation between Czech and Canadian experts, this time in the area of women's rights, an inseparable part od good governance practices in a democratic sqciety.
