A Historical Analysis of the Genesis of the Television in Saudi Arabia

Abstract
This research attempts to trace track and highlight the most significant milestones, achieved in history during the initiation and popularity of television in the country. The study adopted a descriptive method and conducted the analysis using secondary resources, published articles, and a thesis. The analysis entailed the role of both the state-owned and private channels, which made significant strides to promote it in the country. It was also revealed that socio-political and economic factors led to an increasing Saudi viewership for translated, dubbed, Mexican, and Turkish dramas as new forms of media or drama which helped to transform its fixed and rigid identity. In light of the study's findings, it is concluded that language and display of other cultures provided a significant exploration to the viewers of Saudi Arabia which engendered a provocative urge to bring change in their decades-old view of lifestyle and society.
