Preparative Method: 2,2,2‐trichloroethyl carbonazidate (TrocN 3 ) is readily prepared from commercially available 2,2,2‐trichloroethyl chloroformate and sodium azide in acetone (eq ). 1 Sodium azide is not compatible with dichloromethane (or chloroform), due to the formation of explosive diazidomethane, CH 2 (N 3 ) 2 . 2 Polyhalomethane solvents should also be avoided in the workup of TrocN 3 . image Purification: flash chromatography on silica gel with 100% CH 2 Cl 2 . Handling, Storage, and Precautions: should be stored at 0 °C and protected from light. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis shows TrocN 3 decomposes at 157 °C. 1
