Physical Data: mp 76–78 °C; d 1.3 ± 0.1 g cm −3 . Form Supplied in: solid; Commercially available, clear, colorless to faintly yellow. Solubility: 25 mg mL −1 in chloroform. Preparation and Purification: the title reagent is prepared by the dropwise addition of p ‐toluenesulfonyl chloride in dry dichloromethane to an imidazole solution in dry dichloromethane at 0 °C. After 1.5 h of vigorous stirring at room temperature, the crude mixture is filtered through silica, washed with a mixture of ethyl acetate and hexanes (1:1), and the filtrate is concentrated under high vacuum to yield a white crystalline solid. 1 Handling, Storage, and Precautions: moisture sensitive. Store under inert gas in a cool and dark place.
