Abstract
In its third year, the R(D)SVS Diversity Summer School is a fully funded residential school for anyone interested in exploring veterinary medicine but who may not immediately consider it for them. Criteria for selection included belonging to an ethnic or religious minority or being from a lower socioeconomic background. The aim is to encourage applicants who might not normally apply or have barriers to enter higher education. Some applicants lack support to put together a competitive application to a UK veterinary school program. This program was designed to give these applicants the opportunity to find out about veterinary medicine, gain confidence that this is for them, and help them become competitive applicants. This is an update on progress to date, outcomes, and our experience so far.
