A finals dels anys 70 Aaron Antonovsky va introduir el concepte de salutogènesi promovent una mirada del concepte de salut en positiu. Antonovsky va capgirar el concepte de salut exposant que: "Hem de mirar allò que generi salut més que les limitacions i causes de malalties". Però malgrat les similituds teòriques amb les intencions descrites el 1986 a la Carta d'Ottawa i la promoció de la salut, encara no s'ha explorat prou el potencial de la teoria salutogénica. Cal promoure l'enfocament centrat en la salut en lloc de l'enfocament centrat en la malaltia. n
