Abstract
Cet article propose une relecture contemporaine d’une oeuvre majeure de Denys Arcand, Réjeanne Padovani. Cette opération se justifie en partie par l’actualité politique québécoise des dernières années, qui présente certains éléments de similitude avec le milieu dépeint dans ce film. Qui plus est, cette production de 1973, de même que les propos extra-filmiques du cinéaste, portent déjà les thèmes fondamentaux de l’oeuvre subséquente du réalisateur. Nous analysons plus particulièrement les aspects éthiques et politiques du film, tout en proposant une réflexion portant sur ces concepts. Cette entreprise, combinant analyse filmique et considérations philosophiques et sociopolitiques, se conjugue au dévoilement de la vision particulière développée par le cinéaste, une représentation éminemment sombre des individus, de la société québécoise et de leur devenir historique.
