Abstract
Dans cet article, l’auteure examine plusieurs corpus d’images inédites, en vue de montrer comment Jean-Baptiste Lagacé (1868-1946), premier professeur d’histoire de l’art au Canada, oeuvrait à la constitution de multiples histoires, suivant deux modes. En tant qu’artiste, il mettait en images l’histoire de Montréal et du Canada français; en tant qu’historien, il reconstituait l’histoire universelle de l’art. En produisant des images ou en se servant d’images déjà existantes, Lagacé tirait ainsi avantage des fonctions rhétoriques de deux types de dispositifs, tous deux axés sur la faculté des images à évoquer ou à produire un mouvement, une transmission ou un déplacement.
