Le premier corpus de films de fiction québécois fut réalisé pendant les années 1920 à Montréal, et les plus importants scénarios furent rédigés par la journaliste et écrivaine Emma Gendron. L’article documente et analyse son activité à la lumière des études récentes sur l’émergence des femmes dans le champ littéraire au Québec au début du 20 e siècle, montrant comment Gendron développa dans le monde du cinéma une position de compromis semblable à celle des autres auteures qui profitaient de nouveaux genres (journaux, magazines, feuilletons) pour faire leur place dans l’institution.
