Abstract
Les Dieppois envoient des bateaux pêcher la morue au large de Terre-Neuve depuis le xve siècle. Ils participent activement aux premiers établissements français au Brésil, en Floride, au Canada et aux Antilles. Ils figurent parmi les premiers colons à s’établir à Saint-Christophe. Ils constituent plusieurs groupes d’investisseurs notamment pour le développement de la Guadeloupe en 1635. Mais quelle est leur place dans le trafic antillais et comment conçoivent-ils leurs investissements ? Quels sont leurs rapports avec la Compagnie des îles qui a reçu du pouvoir la conduite de la colonisation à partir de 1626 et les seigneurs-propriétaires qui lui succèdent jusqu’en 1664 ? Réussissent-ils à conforter leur place face à leurs rivaux normands ? Leur place se renforce-t-elle tout au long du siècle ?
