Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

In recent years, the Far Eastern Center (DC) of the world economy has emerged, it includes China, Japan, South Korea (RK), Hong Kong (China), Taiwan Province. In terms of economic opportunities and technological level, it is comparable to the collective West consisting of the United States, Canada, the European Union (EU), and the United Kingdom. Data on foreign trade demonstrate the internal connectivity of the centers. The DC countries form a coherent group, and are not appendages of the Western economy. According to current exchange rates, the GDP of the DC is about half of the GDP of the West, according to purchasing power parities, about 2/3. China, Japan and South Korea are the largest producers in the manufacturing industry, including steel and automobiles production. In terms of the value added by processing in the manufacturing industry, DC surpasses the collective West. An important feature of the DC is a strong financial base. DC is more than twice ahead of the West in terms of foreign exchange reserves. DC's technological leadership is particularly remarkable in the electronics industry. DC countries are leading manufacturers and exporters of digital equipment: computer, telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics, and components for their production. In 2022, about 50% of the world exports of ICT goods were from DC countries. The expansion of DC opportunities through the creation of the world's largest free trade area – Comprehensive regional economic partnership consisting of China, South Korea, Japan, ASEAN countries, Australia, New Zealand – creates an environment for long-term sustainable growth and development.
