Abstract
Land expropriation and forced eviction for development in Taiwan have led to serious social issues. The government justifies these measures as essential for growth. In our study, using Habermas’s theory, we found that residents’ lifeworld experiences differ significantly from official propaganda. We argue that the government’s pursuit of financial gain under the guise of development has created a crisis in citizens’ lifeworlds. This highlights the gap between reality and official rhetoric, stressing the need for more transparent and genuine communication on land policies.
