Les récents changements en matière d’immigration permanente et temporaire, au Québec et au fédéral, sont susceptibles d’avoir des effets amplifiés sur les parcours des personnes déjà sur place et qui souhaitent obtenir la résidence permanente. Même si le premier ministre Justin Trudeau expliquait récemment que l’immigration permanente (qui vise l’installation) et l'immigration temporaire (qui répond à des demandes à court terme) sont deux catégories distinctes, celles-ci ne sont pas étanches et de plus en plus de personnes obtenant la résidence permanente ont une expérience temporaire préalable. Dans cet article, je propose de déplier les différentes couches de complexité des régimes migratoires canadien et québécois que doivent naviguer les résident·es temporaires espérant obtenir la résidence permanente au Québec. Je montre comment ce processus long et complexe de transition vers un statut de résidence octroyant les pleins droits – la résidence permanente – affecte leur parcours de manière souvent précarisante.
