Abstract

Mirror nuclei near doubly magic 56 Ni are being explored at TRIUMF, Canada's particle accelerator centre. A stable 20 Ne beam experiment to produce 55 Co and a complimentary radioactive 21 Na beam experiment to produce 55 Ni were conducted. These experiments leveraged TIGRESS for γ rays, SFU's TIP CsI Ball for charged particles, specialized Ca targetry, and Doppler-shift lifetime methods. Additionally, the 55 Ni experiment used EMMA for enhanced selectivity. These experiments aim to identify the energies, spins, and parities of excited states in 55 Ni, establish mirror energy differences between 55 Ni and 55 Co, compare the excitation of reaction products at different beam energies (50, 55, 60 MeV) for 55 Co, measure the temperature of 60 Zn and 61 Ga compound nuclei, measure EM transition rates for the states in 55 Ni and 55 Co, and provide reliable data for shell model calculations for hole states in the f 7 / 2 nuclear orbital near 56 Ni. This proceeding reviews the methodology behind and current state of the 55 Co experiment analysis with preliminary results.
