Abstract

A new species of the family Burmecaelidae Uchida et al., 2024 is described as Burmecaelinus yungyenwangae sp. nov. based on a well-preserved adult female specimen from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber. Due to similarities in morphology of the paraproctal lobes and ovipositor to Ripipterygidae Ander, 1939 (Caelifera: Tridactylidea: Tridactyloidea), as well as in forewing venation to Mongoloxyinae Gorochov, 1992 (Tridactyloidea: Tridactylidae), a taxonomic position of Burmecaelidae within Tridactylidea Brull, 1835 is suggested. The specimen ECNU-AM-0079, formerly interpreted as Burmecaelinus armis Uchida et al., 2024 by Hu & He (2024) probably does not belong to that genus, but rather to Moban Hu & He, 2024.
