• Interdisciplinary scholarship shows that LGBTQ + people in many national and urban contexts face discrimination at work. • The literature tends to characterize this reality as social/cultural and policy implementation problems. • Queer and trans materialist scholarship offers powerful alternative framings. • The conceptual frames of 'homonormativity' and 'homonationalism' highlight inclusion as a form of harm. • LGBTQ+ workplace experiences are inextricable from cisheteropatriarchal racial capitalism's structural dispossessions.
